Expert advice for your self build projects and DIY renovations
House viewings and renovations
Have you seen the house of your dreams, but know it will need some work? If you’re not sure of the scale of the project that you might be undertaking, we can join you on a viewing and talk through your options with you before you commit to buy.
Starting your own self-build or renovation project, but not sure where to start? Or perhaps, you have some experience, but know you need advice in certain areas? You can book our consulting service that means you benefit from our expertise, but still have the experience and satisfaction of carrying out the work yourself.
Whether you're ‘doing it yourself’ to reduce costs, or because it’s a passion project, we provide one-to-one expert advice to get you started on the right foot.
New self-build projects and renovations of old buildings, each bring their own challenges, fortunately, we have experience of both! Although there are always opportunities for projects to throw up something new, in our 15+ years of operation we’ve experienced most issues that a DIYer might have to contend with.
Why use a consultant?
There’s lots of advice and tutorials online, but nothing beats a face-to-face conversation that gets your questions answered.
There’s often more than one solution to the challenge you're facing, talking through the pros and cons with someone that’s been there, done that can help you choose the right solution for your needs.
Avoid costly mistakes. We’re often called in to rectify work that has gone wrong. Sometimes something as simple as undertaking tasks in a different order, would have saved the customer time and money. We can help you approach your project in the most efficient way and advise you on the most appropriate techniques and materials for your needs.
What to expect
We will visit you on-site, for either a full day (8 hours) or a half day (4 hours).
Be prepared to show any plans that you have already drawn up, it helps to share these and your questions with us before we visit.
We will work through as many of your questions/issues as we can in the time that we have, we may even get hands-on depending on the task in hand.
If you are planning a large or complex project, we will provide guidance on the most appropriate and efficient order of activities, and where possible will provide tips and advice for where savings can be made.
Where appropriate, we will recommend material suppliers, types of materials and techniques that suit your needs.
Depending on the scope of work, we may advise that planning permission, building control or structural engineering calculations must be sought before continuing.
